yeah…a least Imogen apologised and understood why Jack wasn’t out, but they could have done better

Right. I just felt like Jack’s writing was really confusing and it all felt mostly for plot convenience. We were never given any hints that Jack wasn’t out to her family prior to this story line. I’m fine with Jack not being Imogen’s endgame because that’s realistic and because they didn’t have that deep of a connection, but I wish the writers had picked any reason other than this for splitting them up. Degrassi has a gross tendency to give their LGBT ships drama by having one half of their ship (Dylan, Zane, Imogen) pressuring the still closeted partner (Marco, Riley, Jack) to come out before they’re 100% ready. Like it’s usually presented as a failure on the closeted person’s part and somehow cowardly when it’s clear that in Marco’s and Riley’s cases, they came from homophobic families. We don’t know exactly why Jack didn’t want to come out, but she doesn’t need a reason. She gets to choose if and when she ever wants to come out. But I really hate how Jack is the clear bad guy here. Even when they go to prom together, Jack is the clear loser because she’s a stick in the mud that doesn’t want to do novelty dances. The only bright side to all this is that Degrassi seemed to finally get it right with Zoe and Rasha. Both Zoe and Rasha needed to remain closeted for one reason or another and there was never any pressure to come out or any manipulative moments where one tried to claim the other was ashamed of who they were or their partner just because they weren’t currently ready to be out in the open. But I’m also glad Imogen apologized. :p
